Waimakariri District is one of the fastest-growing Districts in New Zealand and it's a really interesting time to be involved with Local Government with abundant challenges across a diverse range of areas. The Waimakariri District Council are looking for an Environmental Services Team Leader to lead our busy and professional Animal Management Officers and General Inspectors who support the Council with regulatory compliance and enforcement across the district.
We are looking for a team leader who is able to work effectively across a wide range of areas to enable a customer-focused environment in a professional, approachable, and solutions-focused organisation. This is a varied and exciting role that involves a lot of hands-on work in the field as well as coordinating the team and leading process improvement to ensure they are up to date, effective, efficient, and user friendly. In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the full range of Animal Management duties such as responding to service requests and complaints, patrolling, and assisting with animal welfare at the pound. This role will also be expected to assist the General Inspectors with duties such as responding to litter complaints, parking complaints/monitoring, and general service requests. As the Team Lead you will assist with prioritizing and coordinating work demands to deliver a high level of service to the community as well as managing escalated situations as required.
To be successful in this role you will have some experience in a leadership role, familiarity with compliance and/or regulation, and preferably experience working with animals. A good eye for detail, strong customer service experience, and familiarity working with digital systems and computers are critical. Well-developed written and oral communication skills are also imperative as is the ability to maintain confidentiality as this role will involve communicating with members of the public as well as Council employees. A current full NZ driver's licence is required

This position is a full time, permanent role based in Rangiora, Canterbury commencing in October 2021 with hours from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Please note that one weekend in four is rostered to cover pound duties which take an average of 1-2 hours each day.
Only 20 minutes north of Christchurch, Waimakariri District offers small town and rural lifestyles with a range of outdoor recreation activities on your doorstep but with the advantages of a big city nearby.
