Drainage and Waterways Manager

The Waimakariri District Council is seeking a Drainage and Waterways Manager within the Utilities and Roading Department, based in Rangiora, North Canterbury. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and skilled engineer to join a progressive and customer-focused Council. This is a permanent full time position with the responsibility of managing the Council's urban stormwater, rural land drainage and stockwater assets and services.

The Waimakariri District Council serves a community of nearly 60,000 that is experiencing rapid growth. This growth, along with increasing community expectations on managing freshwater resources, has made drainage and waterway management is one of the key issues in the Waimakariri District.

The position of Drainage and Waterways Manager is a senior role within the Utilities and Roading Department and a key part of the 3 Waters team. You will be responsible for strategic infrastructure planning, management of the capital works programme and overseeing the maintenance and operation of the Council's drainage systems. The role also has the responsibility of assisting with the development of Council's role in the management of watercourse protection and waterway enhancement. This is a great opportunity to work closely with the public, Council, consultants and contractors to deliver outstanding results for both the community and the environment.

This role will suit a qualified engineer, preferably CPEng, with technical expertise in Water, Civil and Environmental Engineering. Ideally applicants should have significant experience with drainage systems, sound knowledge of asset management planning practices and a passion for the environment. Strong leadership and oral communication skills are essential for this varied and challenging position.
